Ariarne Titmus
Winning back the title
Ariarne was born in Tasmania and soared to prominence as a star of the Dolphins Swim Team, achieving big wins in international competitions. She famously defeated five-time Olympic Champion Katie Ledecky in 2019, marking a significant turning point in her career. Her Olympic triumph in 2021, including gold in the 400m Freestyle, solidified her status as a swimming legend. Despite briefly losing her world record in 2022, she reclaimed it at the 2023 World Championships.
A new perspective
Ariarne says the biggest challenge she’s faced so far is the removal of the tumour in her ovary in 2023. She was worried it would interfere with her ability to one day have children, and the physical challenge of overcoming the operation and coming back to training less than 12 months out from an Olympic Games was daunting. Looking back, she says, “I am so proud of the way I managed my recovery and bounced back. I learnt a lot from the experience and it put a lot of things in life into perspective”
